Dr. Hardaway received her undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  After a few years working in biology research including pediatric endocrinology, bone biology, and evolutionary biology, she earned her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  During dental school she participated in scientific research and served as the President of the Student Research Association.  She was a class officer and an officer in the American Association of Women Dentists all four years of her training.  She served as the Medical University's Dental representative to the Presidential Scholars Program, an interdisciplinary group addressing public health issues in South Carolina.  She then returned to UNC where she completed a three year advanced education certification in pediatric dentistry from UNC Memorial Hospital and the UNC School of Dentistry.  Additionally she did research and presented her thesis to receive a Master's Degree in Pediatric Dentistry from the UNC College of Graduate Studies.  During her residency she received several awards and fellowships.  She has extensive experience treating the preventive and restorative needs of children, adolescents, and special healthcare needs patients.  After her residency, she completed her board certification, becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.  She is also honored as a Fellow by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry for service and leadership in her field.  Dr. Hardaway's desire to pursue pediatrics stemmed from her love of helping children that began as a babysitter and lifeguard and continued through pediatric bone disease research and culminated in her final career choice as a pediatric dentist.  She strives to create an environment that is nurturing for both children and their parents.

While practicing, Dr. Hardaway serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (SSPD) as she has since 2006.  She is a past President of the Society and has served in many leadership roles over the last 14 years.  She was recently elected to represent the southeast as the District III Director to the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.  She is affiliated with the Tarheel Dental Society, Buncombe County Dental Society, North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Southeastern and Southwestern Societies of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the College of Diplomates.  In addition to her leadership positions, Dr. Hardaway routinely gives back to children by volunteering for dental mission trips in third world areas.  She has served the children of the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Mexico over the years.  In 2019, she will be the Team Leader of a mission trip to Mexico.

In her free time, Dr. Hardaway enjoys being with family, friends and her two dogs, hiking, reading, seeing live music and playing tennis.
